ITF Welsh Championships - Penarth

Congratulations for those students that attended the event in Penarth on Sunday the 27th of February. There were over 400 students in attendance, however due to the Adult & Junior Black Belts competing first in a venue that was not of sufficient size, many junior students aged as young as 7 were still waiting to fight at 8.30 pm having arrived at 9.30am!!. Divisons were also mixed together, resulting in some yellow belts competing against black tags!! In spite of this, some fantastic results were achieved :-
Gold Medals :- Hannah Walker, Jack Jones
Silver Medals :- Emily Walker
Bronze Medals :- Lewys Sulman, Cameron Hayle, Vicky Evans, Emma Parsons, Macauley Purchase.
As their instructor, I was extremely proud of how Tae Kwon Do Wales students represented both themselves and the association, showing both respect and a great level of skill. Special mentions also go to Ben Packer & Jake Clark, who were competing against much bigger & higher grade opponents, and produced excellent performances. It was also disappointing that due to extreme late running of the event, Paul Hayle was unable to compete in the Men's Coloured belt division, where he would have been a one of the favourites.
I look forward to even greater success later this year, at hopefully better organised events, although I have been assured that in future, this event will be held in a more fitting venue.
